Recently, major news came from the second phase of the Sixth People’s Hospital of Longgang District, Shenzhen — the project was officially put into operation on September 16. From planning to completion, the flooring materials that come into frequent daily contact with patients and medical staff have undergone layers of rigorous screening.
Jema Flooring stood out in the early construction of the Sixth People’s Hospital of Longgang District with its outstanding quality and comprehensive testing system. The story behind its “quality breakthrough” dates back to an unexpected random inspection three years ago.
An Unexpected Quality Test
In 2022, the construction site of the Fourth People’s Hospital of Longgang District, Shenzhen was running in an orderly manner until it was abruptly halted by the random inspection results of a batch of PVC flooring. Surprisingly, the problematic products came from a well-known international flooring brand, which failed the strict on-site witnessed random inspection conducted by the Public Works Bureau of Longgang District, Shenzhen.
Even more shocking was the significant discrepancy between the inspection data and the submitted application materials. The entrusted test report submitted in advance by the brand showed a product gram weight of 2980g/m², an abrasion loss of 1.1mm³, and an abrasion resistance class of Class T. However, the on-site random sample measured a gram weight as high as 3498g/m², an abrasion loss of 4.8mm³, and an abrasion resistance class of only Class M — far below the Class T standard specified in the relevant bidding technical parameters of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Public Works.
The conclusion of “inconsistency between the report and the actual product” was final. The project owner immediately revoked its supply qualification, nearly 2,000 square meters of already laid flooring were completely removed, and the project progress came to an abrupt halt.
With a tight construction schedule, the project urgently needed a “reliable partner” to take over and rescue the project. Soon, Jema entered the bidding process alongside three foreign brands. In the end, Jema won the bid with better cost performance, promptly submitted a technical commitment letter in accordance with the latest national standards, and its application materials successfully passed the review of the general contractor and the supervisor.
However, the Longgang District Public Works Bureau did not relax its requirements due to the “emergency replacement”. Instead, it set up stricter “four levels of checks” to conduct a comprehensive test on Jema’s products:
- Production Traceability Leaders from the supervisor and the general contractor went directly to Jema’s factory to randomly inspect products on the production line. They supervised the entire process from raw material formulation to vulcanization technology, ensuring that the “on-site products” were fully consistent with the “report data”.
- On-Site Sampling On the day the products arrived at the project site, multiple parties including the Public Works Bureau, the supervisor and the general contractor jointly witnessed the unpacking, sampling and signature confirmation, making the process open and transparent.
- Cross-Province Testing The samples were specially delivered by air to the China National Inspection Beijing Testing Laboratory. The conclusion that “all tested items are qualified” allowed Jema Flooring to pass the most critical level.
- Final Dual Verification As the project neared completion, the supervisor launched the final round of sampling and testing again. This time, the samples were sent to two authoritative institutions: one to the Shenzhen Institute of Building Research for special testing of TVOC emission, and the other to SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd. (SGS) for comprehensive verification of the product’s physical and chemical stability. With dual-line testing and double guarantees, Jema Flooring passed the final test once again with all indicators meeting the standards.
On September 5, 2023, the Fourth People’s Hospital of Longgang District project was successfully completed. With its solid quality that passed four consecutive checks, Jema Flooring delivered a perfect result.
